The MXGP Portugal 2026 was officially presented this Friday in Águeda, during a session that marked the beginning of the countdown to the Portuguese round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, scheduled for June 26, 27 and 28 at the Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda.
The presentation brought together several entities connected to sport, tourism and the organization of the event, with the presence of Tiago Silva, President of ACTIB, the organizing club, Edson Santos, Vice-President of Águeda City Council, Rui Ventura, President of Turismo Centro de Portugal, and Armando Marques, President of the Portuguese Motorcycling Federation. Riders Ruben Fernandez, one of the leading names in the MXGP category, and Luís Outeiro, the current Portuguese Motocross Champion, were also present.
During the session, Tiago Silva highlighted the effort made by ACTIB to secure a “milder” date for the event, while also underlining the new additions to this year’s program, including the Freestyle shows promoted by Monster Energy Europe and the debut of a music festival with entertainment throughout all three days of the event.
Rui Ventura reaffirmed the support of Turismo Centro de Portugal for MXGP Portugal, confirming the continuity already secured for this edition and for the following two years. He also emphasized the strong tourism and media impact of the event, highlighting the importance of the CIA – Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda as a unique infrastructure in the Central region of Portugal, assuming for this territory a reference role similar to that of the Algarve International Circuit in the south of the country.
Armando Marques also left a word of recognition to ACTIB and the Municipality of Águeda for the joint work developed over the years, considering that the Portuguese round now holds an almost mandatory place in the international motocross calendar.
In turn, Edson Santos highlighted the strategic importance of hosting events of this dimension for the tourism growth of the municipality and the region, underlining the transversal impact that the increase in visitors generates throughout the local economy.
One of the most anticipated moments of the presentation was the speech by Ruben Fernandez. The Spanish rider recalled the strong connection he has had with Portugal since childhood, when he accompanied his father, a former motocross rider, on trips to Águeda. Fernandez even stated that “Casarão” is his favorite circuit of the entire World Championship, praising the atmosphere created by the Portuguese fans and guaranteeing that he will fight for victory in this edition.
Luís Outeiro also expressed his enthusiasm about once again representing Portugal as the only Portuguese rider entered in the event. The rider highlighted the pride he feels competing among the world elite of the sport and thanked the organization for its commitment in delivering the event, hoping to reward Portuguese fans with a strong performance.
The presentation ended with the traditional official photo, followed by a social gathering and tasting of regional products, attended by media representatives, guests and sponsors.
The invitation has been made: between June 26 and 28, the Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda will once again welcome the Motocross World Championship caravan for another major edition of MXGP Portugal.
