MXGP Portugal promotes Águeda’s natural and cultural heritage to the world motocross elite

Ahead of another edition of MXGP Portugal, a round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, a delegation made up of World Championship riders, international media representatives and members of the organisation took part in a visit to the Rio Interpretation Centre (C-Rio), an initiative designed to showcase the natural, cultural and tourism heritage of the municipality of Águeda.

The visit began at the Águeda International Motocross Track before heading to C-Rio, a facility created by the Municipality of Águeda as part of the LIFE Águeda project, dedicated to the enhancement of freshwater ecosystems and raising awareness for nature conservation.

Throughout the visit, riders and journalists learned more about the biodiversity associated with the region’s rivers, streams and lagoons, through interactive content highlighting the importance of these ecosystems for environmental balance and local communities.

The programme continued with a tour of Águeda’s historic city centre aboard the tourist train, passing through the emblematic streets decorated with the famous colourful umbrellas, one of the municipality’s most recognisable landmarks.

The afternoon concluded with a tasting of traditional regional products, giving participants direct contact with local gastronomy.

Among those present were several leading names from the Motocross World Championship, including Rubén Fernández (Honda HRC), Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Kevin Horgmo (Team Honda Motoblouz SR Motul), Liam Everts (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing), Janis and Karlis Reisulis (Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2), Ferruccio Zanchi and Simone Mancini (Beddini Racing Ducati Factory), Francisco Garcia and Jake Cannon (Venum BUD Racing Kawasaki), as well as Portuguese riders Duarte Pinto and Bernardo Pinto (EMX125), and Gonçalo Cardoso and Vasco Salgado (EMX250).

The delegation was also accompanied by Águeda City Council’s Councillor for Urban Planning, Carlos Filipe, reinforcing the link between the Municipality and one of the most important international motocross events held in Portugal.

This initiative formed part of the parallel programme of MXGP Portugal, strengthening Águeda’s international promotion as a tourist destination and highlighting its natural, cultural and gastronomic heritage among riders, teams and media from around the world.
