After starting in Argentina, the MXGP caravan headed to Spain.
The next rounds will be held in Europe, with the Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda hosting the 7th round.
Tim Gajser currently leads the MXGP standings at the start of the season, while Kay de Wolf tops MX2.
The MXGP Championship — the world’s premier motocross competition — has now arrived in Europe. After the opening round took place in Argentina, the second round was held this past weekend in Cozar, Spain. The MXGP caravan will remain in Europe over the coming months and stops in Portugal on the weekend of May 3–4.
The championship kicked off in Argentina, on a brand-new circuit in Córdoba, on March 2. French rider Febvre Romain won the first race in the top class, MXGP, while his compatriot Maxime Renaux claimed victory in the second race of the Argentine Grand Prix. After two motos, both riders scored 47 points. In MX2 — the second-tier class — Kay de Wolf won the first race, and Sacha Coenen took the second. However, Kay de Wolf was crowned overall GP winner due to better results across both motos — 1st and 5th — earning a total of 41 points.
This past weekend, MXGP moved to Europe. On the tough and muddy track in Cozar, Spain, Tim Gajser dominated MXGP by winning both races, securing the overall GP win. In MX2, Ferruccio Zanchi was strongest in the first race, while Liam Everts triumphed in the second. Thanks to his 2nd and 1st place finishes, Everts claimed the overall GP win with 47 points.
After two rounds, Slovenian Tim Gajser leads the MXGP standings with 108 points — 20 more than Febvre Romain. In MX2, the race is even tighter. Kay de Wolf leads with 97 points, just six ahead of Liam Everts.
With a thrilling and competitive start to the season, the stage is set for what promises to be an exciting year. All eyes will turn to the Crossódromo Internacional de Águeda in early May, when it hosts the 7th round of the championship.
