COENEN AND ADAMO REIGNED IN ÁGUEDA AND ACHIEVED A CLEAN SWEEP

Lucas Coenen had a perfect weekend in the MXGP class — and Andrea Adamo matched it in MX2.

The Secretary of State for Tourism emphasised the importance of the Águeda Grand Prix in raising Portugal’s profile.

Lucas Coenen and Andrea Adamo were the winners of the Portuguese Grand Prix in MXGP and MX2 respectively. The riders from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing didn’t just win: their dominance was overwhelming, scoring a clean sweep — taking the qualification race and both motos. Both proved superbly adapted to the tough conditions this weekend at the Águeda International Motocross Circuit, with rain and mud.

In the premier class, Lucas Coenen hit hard. The Belgian led both motos from start to finish. Romain Febvre stayed close in both races, but never managed to pass Coenen. Ruben Fernández, from Team HRC, repeated his third place in both races. Coenen leaves Águeda with 50 points, cementing third place in the championship. Febvre took advantage of Tim Gajser’s absence in Águeda to extend his championship lead. The Frenchman now leads with 330 points, 25 ahead of Gajser — Coenen has 287 points.

In MX2, Andrea Adamo won both motos at Águeda, showcasing a high level of performance. In the first race, Simon Längenfelder — his teammate — came second, followed by championship leader Kay de Wolf, from Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing. In the second moto, Sacha Coenen, also part of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, took second, with Kay de Wolf again finishing third.

With these results in Águeda, the battle between De Wolf and Längenfelder remains intense. De Wolf leads with 328 points — only four more than the German rival. Adamo, who had a very productive weekend, closed the gap at the front by collecting 50 points. He is now third with 318 points.

A note on the two Portuguese wild cards — Luís Outeiro in MXGP and Sandro Lobo in MX2 — who didn’t manage to get past the qualification races.

Reisulis and Faure shine in the European Championship

In the EMX250 class of the European Motocross Championship, Latvian rider Janis Reisulis doubled up: he won the second moto after already taking the first. Noel Zanocs (Honda) was second, and Nico Greutmann (Husqvarna) third. The best Portuguese rider was Martim Espinho (KTM), who finished 25th. Tomás Santos (Triumph) was 38th.

In the championship standings, Reisulis extends his lead, now with 176 points. Zanocs and Garcia follow closely, with 164 and 162 points respectively.

In EMX125, after leading the first moto but dropping to fourth, French Yamaha rider Mano Faure dominated the second moto, winning by 39 seconds. Cole McCullough (Fantic) was second, and Jekabs Kubulins (Yamaha) third. Portuguese rider Gonçalo Cardoso (Husqvarna) improved from the first race to finish 19th. Across both motos, Mano Faure won the Portuguese round of EMX125, taking 43 points. In the EMX125 championship, Áron Katona continues leading with 217 points, followed by Italians Bellei (194 points) and Alvisi (192 points).

MXGP in Águeda can “catapult Portugal to even greater prominence”

The Secretary of State for Tourism attended the MXGP event this Sunday at the Águeda International Motocross Circuit and took part in the trophy ceremony.

He said that the MXGP Grand Prix in Águeda can play a key role in attracting tourism and enhancing Portugal’s international visibility. “We believe sport is also a fundamental partner for attracting tourism to Portugal — domestic tourism and, especially, international tourism. The fact that so many world‑class brands are here can catapult Portugal to even greater prominence,” he said. He also praised the hospitality of the Portuguese people, calling it “unique.” He noted that the rain and mud on the Águeda track even boosted the excitement of this weekend’s races.
